How to Use Any Watch Strap with Your Apple Watch
Apple Watch adapters are a small, inexpensive upgrade that opens up the entire world of standard watch straps — including every DVIL leather strap.

Apple Watches are brilliant, but the proprietary lug system locks you into Apple's own bands or a narrow range of official-style alternatives. The fix is a pair of small metal or nylon adapters that slot into the Apple Watch body and give you standard spring-bar lugs — the same 18mm, 20mm, 22mm or 24mm fittings used by almost every traditional watch strap on the market. That includes the entire DVIL collection.
What are Apple Watch adapters?
An Apple Watch adapter is a two-part clip that slides into the watch's internal strap groove and locks in place, just like an Apple Sport Band. On the outside, it presents a pair of traditional watch lugs with drilled spring-bar holes. Once fitted, any standard strap with quick-release or conventional spring bars can be attached in seconds. They are usually made from stainless steel, aluminium or high-grade black-coated alloy to match different Apple Watch finishes.

Which size do I need?
- Apple Watch 38mm / 40mm / 41mm → use 22mm lug width adapters
- Apple Watch 42mm / 44mm / 45mm / 49mm Ultra → use 24mm lug width adapters
- Always match the adapter size to your Apple Watch case, then choose a strap in the same lug width (e.g., 22mm or 24mm).
Are DVIL straps compatible?
Yes — every strap in the DVIL range is built with standard spring bars and quick-release tabs, which means they drop straight onto Apple Watch adapters without modification. Our 22mm and 24mm straps are the perfect match. You get the same premium Italian leather, the same hand-finished edges, and the same quick-swap convenience — now on your Apple Watch.
Where to buy them
Apple Watch adapters are widely available and inexpensive. Search for 'Apple Watch strap adapter' or 'Apple Watch lug adapter' on Amazon or eBay. A good stainless steel pair costs between £8 and £15. Look for sellers with high ratings and check that the adapter matches your case size and preferred finish (silver, black, or gold to match your watch).
For the price of a coffee, you can turn an Apple Watch into a platform for any strap you own.
Fitting tips
- Remove any existing Apple band by pressing the release button on the back of the watch case.
- Slide the adapter into the groove until it clicks — it should feel as secure as an official band.
- Attach your DVIL strap using the quick-release tabs: seat one side, pull the tab, click the other side into place.
- Give the strap a gentle tug to confirm both spring bars are fully seated before wearing.
That is all there is to it. With a £10 adapter and a DVIL strap, your Apple Watch can look like a classic dress piece, a rugged field watch, or anything in between — and you can swap between looks in under ten seconds.
